Surveying – Total Station

Beginning with the design of a project, Mexteds use up-to-date technology in a Trimble Total Station survey kit which is used for developing drainage systems, drawing contour plans, calculating accurate measured units and is open to machine control.

Laser technology is also used in the levelling and reconstruction of playing fields, wicket blocks and softball diamonds as well as the installation of trenching for drainage systems.  LB4 multi-grade or Trimble SPS robotic equipment is fitted to all Mexteds’ primary tractors and trenching equipment and the precision robotic nature of Total Station allows for full automation of all Mexteds laser finishing, trenching and constructing equipment.

Drainage Construction and Trenching

Mexteds offers a wide range of trenching methods to deliver primary and secondary drainage solutions, as well as economical services installation. Our capability extends to the growing area of artificial playing surfaces, where site preparation is vital to achieving good results.

For primary drainage Mexteds uses rock saws or chain trenchers which are controlled by hands-free laser equipment to achieve perfect gradients for optimum drainage.

Various options are available for secondary drainage, depending on ground conditions and the client’s budget.  Sand banding delivers an effective, fast and economical secondary drainage system for sports fields, decompacting the ground at the same time as sand is injected into the sand banding slits.

The company also offers gravel banding for clients looking for an economical solution where soft ground conditions prevail. Mexteds has adopted its plant so that a sand topping can be placed over the gravel layer if required.

Mexteds’ trenchers offer a fast and cost effective solution for utility trenching through firm to very hard ground.  This equipment is ideal for the installation of ducts, electrical and telecommunications cables, with the ability to operate in relatively confined spaces.

Our capability extends to the growing area of artificial playing surfaces, where site preparation is vital to achieving good results.

Vibrating plow equipment is used for installing cables, service ducts, irrigation and water mains, and conduit through playing fields, offering a clean, fast and economical solution.  This is a trenchless system requiring no backfilling.

Decompaction and Aeration

Mexteds offers a range of decompaction and aeration solutions to promote strong and healthy turf that resists stress, improves the uptake of fertiliser and requires less frequent watering.

Rotary decompaction is Mexteds first choice for high performance and natural sports playing surfaces as well as golf courses and races courses, a key advantage being that your sports surface can be used immediately on completion. This is carried out by Mexteds rotary decompactors.

Mexteds also offers impact verti-draining as an alternative to rotary decompaction, using either hollow coring or solid tines.

For clients who are establishing or reconstructing a playing surface where heavy earthmoving equipment has been used, deep multi-directional vibrating subsoil decompaction is an ideal solution for restoring soil quality.

Mexteds has the equipment and expertise to tailor the solution to a range of decompaction problems, depending on the ground conditions and each client’s individual circumstances

With the new age of synthetic playing surfaces upon us, Mexteds has developed appropriately and offers a range of synthetic finishes to suit. From artificial putting greens to indoor life like training synthetics, Mexteds can cater for your surface needs.

With rubber granular infill, impacts onto the artificial surface are absorbed, spread and prevent hard landings making them ideal for training areas or school courtyards.

The surfaces also maintain their integrity, staying clean and tidy year round despite weather conditions.

Sowing/Grassing

Mexteds also provides turf renovation services through direct drilling or over-sowing. Using a turf drill which the company has modified for New Zealand conditions, we are able to undersow both sand and soil-based sports fields, golf courses, race courses and any sports, leisure and amenity grounds.

Undersowing and grassing is a seasonal job for Mexteds and has been for the past 35 years. We see it as more of a treatment and have learnt over the years that each park is different and has its own special characteristics.

Sweeping & Verticutting

Sweeping & VerticuttingDeterioration of sand constructed fields due to the excessive build up of the thatch layer may be overcome through verticutting and sweeping.

Mexteds equipment is ideal for the removal of thatch and can also be used for the removal of debris in a wide range of situations such as clean-ups after concerts and festivals, grass clippings after mowing and the clearing of organic matter after storms or tree removal. Our specialised combination machine has been modified to New Zealand conditions and verticuts and sweeps in one pass.

Mexteds regularly core and sweep Westpac Stadium following events such as concerts or the 7′s.
