It's looking good at Ngā Puna Wai in Christchurch, where we've built two new community fields for HEB Construction on behalf of Christchurch City Council.
Starting from scratch, we levelled the subgrade, placed topsoil and compost, installed irrigation and drainage, before sowing with a sports turf ryegrass that's coming away well.
We're now in the mowing and fertilising phase, and the community fields will be all set for play in 2019.
This series of images give an idea how far we've come to get to this point and we're beginning to see the mowing chequerboard effect!
We'll be back in Spring to start work building two adjacent rugby league fields.

​Mexteds' artifical turf expert Jules de Vries, and our youngest employee, Finbar McGuigan, have just spent a week in Palmerston North transforming two courts at the Awapuni Park Tennis Club for UnReal Grass.
UnReal Grass director Rob Howard said Jules' and Finbar's "knowledge, drive and motivation has been second to none, and I was completely confident and impressed with their work ethics. They were fantastic to work alongside, and I really hope this is the start of a mutually beneficial relationship with UnReal Grass. If they were my employees, I would be very proud of them!"

It was all hands on deck as our operations team worked through the night to build the base for an ice hockey rink at Westpac Stadium for the 2018 Ice Hockey Classic.
Unfortunately the event didn't go ahead due to technical difficulties encountered by the ice making crew.
Disappointing though it was for Wellington ice hockey fans, Mexteds proved it was possible to build a rink with
​600 cu metres of basecourse, followed by topcourse and sand, without damaging the all-important turf.
