Mexteds was among those celebrating the success of Partners Porirua's Youth 2 Work movement this week, along with our latest Operations team member, Jamayne, who came to us through the Youth 2 Work programme after completing Year 13 at Aotea College.

Jamayne is pictured here alongside Anita Baker, Mayor of Porirua City, and our GM, Cameron Mexted, who attended the event.

Jamayne's loving the variety of his new Sports Turf Technician role at Mexteds, saying it's given him confidence to learn new skills and try new things.

And it's great having him on board.

Crumbs! Upcycling!

Repurposing material is a win-win for the environment and our clients. Mexteds' operations team have been removing crumb rubber from the artificial surface at Wellington City Council's Te Whaea Park in Newtown and rolling up the old artificial turf, which is being replaced, working for head contractor, Polytan.

Rather than taking it to the landfill, Mexteds is re-laying the old crumb rubber at Trentham Racecourse, where it will be blended into the sand on the training track. In all, an impressive 450 tonnes of sand, rubber and grass were re-purposed primarily to the equestrian industry.

We've also got takers lined up for the old artificial turf, so a big tick for recycling this week!
